A Trip Back to the Land of Enchantment?

Gophers Projected to Play New Mexico State in New Mexico Bowl

The Minnesota Gophers are projected to play the New Mexico State Aggies in the New Mexico Bowl on December 17th, according to ESPN's Kyle Bonagura.

This would be the second time in three years that the Gophers have played in the New Mexico Bowl.

In 2019, the Gophers defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs 38-20.

A Look at the Matchup

The Gophers (8-4) finished the regular season with a 5-4 record in the Big Ten Conference.

The Aggies (6-6) finished the regular season with a 4-4 record in the Sun Belt Conference.

This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

What's at Stake?

A bowl game victory would give the Gophers their first 9-win season since 2019.

It would also be the first time that the Gophers have won two bowl games in a row since 2013-14.

For the Aggies, a bowl game victory would be their first since 2017.

Other Potential Destinations

If the Gophers are not selected to play in the New Mexico Bowl, they could also be selected to play in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona, or the Fenway Bowl in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Gophers have never played in either of those bowls.

Conclusion

The Gophers are projected to play in the New Mexico Bowl on December 17th.

A bowl game victory would be a big boost for the Gophers' program.

The Gophers will find out their bowl destination on Sunday, December 4th.
