WEB Oklahoma softball wins fourth straight national title, makes history

Sooners' Kelly Maxwell named WCWS Most Outstanding Player

Oklahoma continues to dominate college softball world

WEB Oklahoma made history on Thursday night, becoming the first NCAA Division I softball team to win four straight national titles. The Sooners defeated archrival Texas 8-3 in Game 1 of the 2024 WCWS, and then clinched the title with a 4-2 win in Game 2.

Kelly Maxwell was named the WCWS Most Outstanding Player after closing out the national championship for the Sooners. The senior pitcher threw a complete game in Game 2, allowing just two runs on four hits. She also struck out eight batters.

Oklahoma's victory is a testament to the program's dominance in recent years. The Sooners have now won six national titles in the past 12 years, and they have been to the WCWS 12 times in that span.

Oklahoma's success is due in large part to the leadership of head coach Patty Gasso. Gasso has been at the helm of the Sooners program since 1995, and she has led them to 12 Big 12 regular season titles, 11 Big 12 tournament championships, and six national championships.

The Sooners' victory is a great story for the state of Oklahoma. The team has brought a lot of pride and joy to the state, and they have inspired young girls all over the country to play softball.
