Who Was Barry Seal?

Adler Berriman "Barry" Seal (July 16, 1939 – February 19, 1986) was an American commercial airline pilot who became a major drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel. He later became an informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) after being caught.

The American Made Movie

The 2017 film "American Made" stars Tom Cruise as Barry Seal. The film follows Seal's journey from a commercial airline pilot to a drug smuggler to an informant for the DEA. The movie takes creative liberties with Seal's story, but it is based on real events.

Crash Landing in a Suburban Neighborhood

In the film, Seal is shown crash landing a plane in a suburban neighborhood in an effort to escape the DEA. This scene is based on a real event that happened on February 19, 1986. Seal was flying a drug-laden plane when he was intercepted by DEA agents. He tried to escape by landing the plane in a subdivision in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The plane crashed, killing Seal and an associate.

Seal's Death and Family

The American Made movie does not reveal what really happened to Barry Seal's family after his death. However, it is known that his wife and children moved to witness protection after Seal's death. They have since lived in obscurity.

Seal's Legacy

Barry Seal's story is a complex one. He was a criminal who smuggled drugs for a powerful cartel. However, he also risked his life to help the DEA take down the cartel. He remains a controversial figure, but his story is a fascinating one that has been told in books, movies, and documentaries.
