End of the Road for Internal Combustion Engines: Automakers Announce Ban on Sales by 2035

Volkswagen to Discontinue Combustion Engine Development by 2026

Major automakers are increasingly setting deadlines for the end of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In line with the European Union's ban on new ICE car sales from 2035, automakers including General Motors, Ford, Mercedes, Volvo, Hyundai, and Opel have announced their own phase-out dates.

Volkswagen's EV-Focused Strategy

Volkswagen, Germany's largest automaker, has joined the growing trend by announcing it will not develop any new gasoline or diesel engines beyond 2026. Instead, the company will focus on expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup.

Michael Jost, Volkswagen's top product strategist, explained that the decision aligns with the company's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and meeting future market demands.
